I was curious about what the Internet had to say about “dance clichés,” so I did what any normal human being would do: asked Google. It didn’t have a lot to tell me, but it did warrant this uninformative article from Steve P at the BBC. He told me some things about people doing the hand jive and the robot and JAZZ HANDS (which are obviously prominently displayed at the top of this here page). Yes, these are trite. Yes, they’ve lost their originality. But, dear lovers of dance, there’s more to this than our dear friend the Robot.
I don’t want my opinions of what exactly is cliché in dance right now to influence your thought process as you contribute to this project, but I invite you, my sweet, to THINK BEYOND THE ROBOT.
(But if you want to see a really mean robot, check this video.)
