Ambien Discussion

I’ve been on Ambien cr for a couple of years and it doesn’t put me to sleep. Sometimes I take two and it still doesn’t work. I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. Are there stronger meds out there?
I see a psychiatrist for meds. I’ll definately tell him. It seems mostly likely I have just built a tolerance to it, as some of you have suggested.

Chosen Answer:

Hi–Taking prescription sleeping pills, such as eszopiclone (Lunesta), zaleplon (Sonata) or ramelteon (Rozerem), until there’s less stress in your life may help you get to sleep until you notice benefits from behavioral treatments. Ramelteon is the newest sleep medication, and it doesn’t appear to have the same risk of dependency and rebound insomnia that the other sleep medications do. However, all of these medications may cause severe allergic reaction, facial swelling and complex sleep-related behaviors such as sleep-driving and preparing and eating food while asleep.Doctors generally don’t recommend relying on prescription sleeping pills for more than a few days because they may cause side effects, and developing your ability to sleep without the help of medication is the goal. In addition, sleeping pills can, rarely, be habit-forming and become less effective after a while. The antidepressant trazodone (Desyrel) also may help with insomnia. Over-the-counter sleep aids contain antihistamines that can induce drowsiness. They’re OK for occasional sleepless nights, but they, too, often lose their effectiveness the more you take them. Many sleeping pills contain diphenhydramine, which can cause difficulty urinating and a drowsy feeling in the daytime.

I’ve taken 30 ambien over the last two days and now I feel horribly depressed and worthless.

Chosen Answer:

hmm probably considering you took way more than just a therapeutic dose of Ambien. What was the point of asking this question, it’s kind of obvious. Did you think it might be from something other than your overdosing on sleeping medication? because I highly doubt that. I suggest drinking some tea, exercising, taking some vitamins and trying not to take the entire script of Ambien in just 2 days…

I just got out of the ER and the doctor prescribed Vicodin and Ambien. I forgot to ask him how I take them while I was there, so is it okay to take both at once? What side effects should I expect?
I also took another prescription for nausea called promethazine.

Chosen Answer:

They are fine if taken as prescribed. Both are depressants, and both will make you drowsy (especially the Ambien), but it is not dangerous to take the two together as prescribed at bedtime. Ambien works VERY quickly, only take it right as you are going to bed.

I wouldn’t take more than what is prescribed though if you are taking them together.

ive flown internationally many times and never fall asleep, not even a nap. it runs in the family. my mom takes ambien before she goes to bed soemtimes, should i take one pill and take it on the plane? im 15 years old male btw.

Chosen Answer:

I wouldn’t recommend taking it if you haven’t previously used it and know how it will affect you.
It has been known to cause sleepwalking, and some behaviors in people that aren’t normal for them. The last thing you want to happen is have a similar reaction while you’re on a plane. You just might find yourself in jail.
You also don’t want to attempt to bring something like a pill onto a plane that isn’t prescribed to you. You can be arrested for that, too.
Maybe bring something that isn’t prescription-strength, like Tylenol PM. It makes you really sleepy, and isn’t known to cause unusual behavioral side effects.

When you take the sleeping pill Ambien, is it possible that you may still not fall asleep? And im not taking about taking a bigger dose then prescribed. If you take the prescribed dose, will that force you into sleep even if your not trying to fall asleep? Also, I dont plan on it, but can you get high off of Ambien, and what kind of high would it be?

Chosen Answer:

It is possible! I have seen that before!

question says it all. I have Ambien and recently started taking Septra, and I was just wondering if it was okay to take them together since Septra is so strong?

Chosen Answer:

Well, Ambien is a sleep aid and Septra is an antibacterial agent, so there wouldn’t be too much along the lines of overlapping benefits… but this is a question you should really be asking of your doctor or pharmacist. Both have access to a database of drug interactions, so they can look it up quickly. Plus, if they’re both prescription, they should have checked that database… but it’s better to ask and be sure they didn’t miss it. Good luck!

My best friend just told me she took 200mg of ambien and 10 mg of xanax because she was so desperate to go to sleep , whats gonna happen to her ?

Chosen Answer:

The maximum recommended dose of Ambien is 10 mgs…. and the meximum recommended dose of Xanax is 4mgs……. the Xanax will just make her sleep but that much ambien mixed with the xanax may make her sleep forever. You need to call the police and have her taken to an ER like right now. She could die…..

Has anyone who has taken Ambien ever developed a tolerance to 10mg? The last week I’ve noticed no effect from 10mg after taking for a few months. This is only before bed by the way! I think ambien is great as it helps me sleep very well. If I go off it for about a week, I wonder if it would start working again?

Chosen Answer:

It has worked that way for me. I developed a huge tolerance to it and going off of it for two weeks puts me back to where it will do what it’s supposed to do again. Pills work differently for everyone though and you may keep your tolerance, but it’s worth trying if ambien helps you. =) Good luck!

Chosen Answer:

This would be a very good question to discuss with a doctor. If you are having problems sleeping, make an appointment to see your PCP or a Psychiatrist. Good Luck.
