Ambien Discussion

I heard that ambien has a generic form that just came out. If it did, does anynody know what the name of it is. Or what it looks like? I recently got a refill on a rx and had a friend pick it up. My pills looked different, when I asked him about it, he said that this was the generic form of ambien. Just curious if anyone knew anything about it.

Thanks in advance!
these pills are round and a light green color. (5mg)

Chosen Answer:

yes, It is call Zolpidem. It is a light purple round pill with a large M on top and a z2 below it. I just picked up some and had asked the pharmacist about this.

I haven’t slept more than 2 hours for the past week, and when I wake up, I feel extremely unrefreshed. Even though I feel really tired, I still can’t fall asleep. There’s no change in temperature/jet lag or anything like that. How do I know if I have insomnia and how can I stop it if I do?

Chosen Answer:

When not getting to sleep bothers you and effects your life and there was no apparent cause (such as a recent death) to the point that you feel the need to ask a doctor about it/take sleeping pills.

I wouldn’t worry. You either have insomnia or you don’t. I am pretty sure this will go away soon.

I’ve been on Ambien cr for a couple of years and it doesn’t put me to sleep. Sometimes I take two and it still doesn’t work. I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. Are there stronger meds out there?
I see a psychiatrist for meds. I’ll definately tell him. It seems mostly likely I have just built a tolerance to it, as some of you have suggested.

Chosen Answer:

Hi–Taking prescription sleeping pills, such as eszopiclone (Lunesta), zaleplon (Sonata) or ramelteon (Rozerem), until there’s less stress in your life may help you get to sleep until you notice benefits from behavioral treatments. Ramelteon is the newest sleep medication, and it doesn’t appear to have the same risk of dependency and rebound insomnia that the other sleep medications do. However, all of these medications may cause severe allergic reaction, facial swelling and complex sleep-related behaviors such as sleep-driving and preparing and eating food while asleep.Doctors generally don’t recommend relying on prescription sleeping pills for more than a few days because they may cause side effects, and developing your ability to sleep without the help of medication is the goal. In addition, sleeping pills can, rarely, be habit-forming and become less effective after a while. The antidepressant trazodone (Desyrel) also may help with insomnia. Over-the-counter sleep aids contain antihistamines that can induce drowsiness. They’re OK for occasional sleepless nights, but they, too, often lose their effectiveness the more you take them. Many sleeping pills contain diphenhydramine, which can cause difficulty urinating and a drowsy feeling in the daytime.

I do not want an addictive sleep aide. Anything that helps insomnia for a few days? It is increasing. I don’t need a doctor. I have one.

Chosen Answer:

I have always been a fan of non-medicinal assistance first.
Mild exercise …. or up to the level that you can stand is a way of both relieving stress and naturally tiring out the body. Walks, brisk walks, jogs in the evening will allow time for your system to adjust & let the fatigue set in. I would do sit up’s, leg lifts, some push-ups (LOL). Try to work that part of the body that you store your stress in (shoulders, adomen … etc)

A nice walk …if in a safe area ….. pick a direction and walk for 20 minutes turn around and walk back home. The next time pick another direction and then walk for 25 minutes. I’ve found that when I walk …. small issues don’t seem that important.

Another thing that I would do would if I couldn’t sleep I would like to positively use that time. I would start to organize my thought to write a story, novel, anecdotes or something funny (if I could). I’ve found that running my brain on a different path is relaxing so I’m enjoying myself … until I can fall asleep.

A friend of mine just took 9 5mg tablets of Ambien. Not sure if she wants to overdose or just get high, but I’m scared. What to expect or do?

Chosen Answer:

Call poison control or ER and tell them what happened. 10mg is normal, 20mg is doable, but 45mg may be dangerous.

At the least, your friend will probably sleep for 12 hours or so. If she does wake up before then, she probably won’t remember anything she says or does, and can fall alseep at anytime without warning.

Ambien is a nasty dangerous drug. Your friend is very foolish for doing what she did. Ambien is not candy, and can do serious damage to the brain. Tell your friend to stick to beer and pot – at least she will live to tell about it.

i’m in the uk-i’ve tried all sorts of natural remedies and a couple of self help books but nothing has worked for my life long insomnia.rightly so my doc will only give me meds once or twice a year can anyone suggest anything that has worked for them.

Chosen Answer:

its not really for insomnia so I don’t know how effective these will be but its worth a try. Methods to get to sleep:

1) Close your eyes and imagine your route to work/school, step by step until you get there. If you’re still not sleepy, continue your journey to somewhere else with a route that you find automatic or just turn round and go back home again.

2) This is a Japanese method used for many years. A Japanese man broke his leg one day and the doctor told him that he might never be able to walk on it properly ever again, but gave him this method. Close your eyes, lay down and, bit by bit, send your body to sleep. Just relax them and picture them falling asleep, feel the tension sliding out of them. Start with your toes, relaxing them one by one and then work up to your foot and then calves, thighs, hips, waist, stomach, chest, shoulders, elbows, arms, hands, fingers, neck, head, nose, mouth, cheeks, eyes, ears. The Japanese man’s leg recovered completely after a year of this every night.

I take Cialis for ED every once in awhile. I’ve recently started to take Ambien because of my insomnia. I keep hearing about how good Ambien sex is but haven’t gotten to that point yet. There will be occassions that I’ll be taking both at that same time. Is this safe and will I have increase sexual pleasure?

Chosen Answer:

Ambian seems to make me forget anything that happens once it starts working and it makes me dissy.

i am on 50mg of Pamelor which is an anti-depressant. its a low dosage and is used to prevent chronic migraines rather than depression. i’ve been having trouble sleeping lately and want to take an Ambien tonight. would the combination cause any weird problem for me?

Chosen Answer:

It shouldn’t just take one ambien, and it shouldn’t effect you in any negative way, i am on anti depressants, and was on ambien and it didn’t do anything bad.

After four years of taking Ambien CR my friend stopped taking it. He quit taking it about 5 months ago. For the last 4 months (at least) he has been depressed. For the last 3 months severely depressed.
Is there anyone out there that has heard of anything like this? Have you ever heard of someone becoming so depressed after they stopped taking AmbienCR?

Chosen Answer:

Ambien is one of the most ineffective drugs on the market to treat insomnia and does not cause depression. Your friend needs to see a psychiatrist immediately.

I have insomnia and i really can’t fall asleep at all i’ve tried since 11pm until now. I’ve tossed and turned many times and i don’t know the real reason why i can’t fall asleep. I think it could be because of my insomnia but I’m not sure. It’s like 2:15 am in the morning on the east coast right now and i can’t fall asleep and i feel sleep deprived. What could i do so i could fall asleep ? I feel so crappy right now because i can’t fall asleep.

Chosen Answer:

Check your current heart-rate. Do anything you can to get it to slow down. Get up and dance like crazy or work out if you’re stressed out. If that isn’t your cup of tea, try meditating. I try reading a boring book. Something to get my mind out of the spiral of thoughts.
I know you’re crazy tired though. Basically, what you can do is get up, walk around, take a deep breath and do something that relaxes you, whether it be reading/listening to music/drawing/singing/etc. Whatever it is, get out of bed and do that. Then do some deep breathing exercises, and try and clear your head of all thought. But only do that after you can get your body to relax. Don’t drink coffee, or anything caffeinated.
But don’t worry too hard. It’ll be okay. :)

  • What Is Ambien (Zolpidem) ?

Ambien is a sedative, also called a hypnotic. It affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause sleep problems (insomnia).

Ambien is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling or staying asleep). This medication causes relaxation to help you fall asleep.
