I wish to train myself into a sleepless state for my own reasons. This would benefit me ALOT, is there any way to make yourself have insomnia?

Chosen Answer:

Well, I hope you know that without sleep, your immune system will be terrible. You’ll be in a constant state of sleepiness and you won’t be able to do things you could do easily before because your brain doesn’t function properly. Memorization and math problems will be more difficult than they should be.
Also, insomnia doesn’t necessarily mean not sleeping at all. Insomnia can be waking up constantly during the night, or even sleeping all night and not achieving deep sleep so you’re still tired.

If you really want insomnia, having a stressful life helps. If you look up ways to cure insomnia, you can cause trouble sleeping by doing exactly the opposite of what they tell you to do. For example, you aren’t supposed to do any stimulating activity within a few hours of your bedtime. Run around or watch television before bed.

I heard that ambien has a generic form that just came out. If it did, does anynody know what the name of it is. Or what it looks like? I recently got a refill on a rx and had a friend pick it up. My pills looked different, when I asked him about it, he said that this was the generic form of ambien. Just curious if anyone knew anything about it.

Thanks in advance!
these pills are round and a light green color. (5mg)

Chosen Answer:

yes, It is call Zolpidem. It is a light purple round pill with a large M on top and a z2 below it. I just picked up some and had asked the pharmacist about this.

Is it possible for someone to experience insomnia because their body is trying to fight off an infection?

Chosen Answer:

Insomnia in the strict definition (having had it for years) is a stress related illness that affects sleep patterns.

However other factors can affect sleep, it is true. Caffiene, drugs/medicine, alcohol, etc, so many factors to take in. To get a full nights sleep consider these options:

-wind down before going to bed
-remove things like computers and phones from the bedroom, and anything too noisey
-dont drink coffee, tea or cola (or other caffienne drinks) before going to bed. It takes a coupla hours for it to exit your body, and only 15-20 mins for it to kick in

-leave a window open slightly if in winter, or fully open during the summer. Fresh air helps you to sleep
-change bed covers and sheets regularly (atleast once a week). This will tackle bed fungi and germs that build up in the fabric. Airing (or leaving the duvet off) the mattress every now and again is also good

-try not to eat anything a couple of hours before you go to bed, epecially stodgy and fatty foods
-avoid heavy exercise in this time frame too
-avoid sugary and alcoholic drinks before bed, these may dehydrate you and dehydration wakes you up a few hours later

-dust and vaccuum the bedroom often
-a decent bed and matress that supports the body weight and positions will be comfortable

I have been taking Ambien for quite a while and I’ve noticed that it gives me amnesia once it hits me. I barely remember talking to people on the phone, and I have no idea what we talked about. It’s weird because I vaguely remember talking on the phone, but not to who or what about. Eventually on in the day I remember who I talked to, but I never remember what we talked about.

Is this normal?

Chosen Answer:

Yes, it is very normal for Ambien to cause amnesia. There have been a few legal problems because of this; I remember seeing on FOX News a few years ago how there was this bus driver who ran into three mail boxes at three different points in her daily route, and had absolutely no recollection of it when she was questioned about it. She said it was due to taking Ambien but no one believed her, so people who took Ambien started speaking up for her all over the country. One story I remember in particular was how this one lady who takes it daily began waking up and baking cookies in the middle of the night. When she woke up, she had no recollection of baking them, and this began happening nightly. She laughed it off, though, saying that her office enjoys home-made cookies every morning. So, I wouldn’t doubt for a second that Ambien causes amnesia.

I accidentally took 2 of my brother’s topamax pills. I’m wondering if I can now take my prescribed ambien? I would think so seeing as topamax is not a heavy duty drug and I didn’t find any significant interactions with them. Anyone know?

Chosen Answer:

Call any 24 hour pharmacy and speak with the pharmacist! Yahoo! Answers is not the place to ask for information like this.

If you’re stranded and don’t have a phone, here’s the information I pulled off of drugs.com:

“MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.

MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities”

This is listed as a ‘moderate’ interaction. Depending on an uncountable amount of factors, this could mean anything from “you may die in your sleep” to “nah, it’s cool man”. When in doubt, don’t mix medications (especially two medications so similar in action) until you’ve talked to someone who’s an expert.

Drugs are bad, mmkay.

anosmia- cannot smell
insomnia- cannot sleep
???- cannot ?
???- cannot ?

As many as possible (maybe taste, move), and don’t make them up.
Also, it would be great if they ended in -ia. Thanks!

Chosen Answer:

Taste: Ageusia is the loss of taste functions of the tongue. Hypogeusia is the partial loss of taste. To my knowledge, there is no specific name given to individuals who have taste disorders.

Alopecia- loss of hair

diseases ( malaria; anemia)
Words ending in -ia

Phobia:an intense but unrealistic fear that can interfere with the ability to socialize, work, or go about everyday life, brought on by an object, event or situation.

I know that Ambien has a 10 mg. pill. Do they make a stronger one???
For a well educated answer I will give points and awards!!!

Chosen Answer:

it starts at 5 increases in 1.25 mg increments.

It is a CVI (Controlled Class 4) meaning it has some potential for abuse. It is really for temporary insomnia but in some rare cases it is the only thing that a patient will not build up a tolerance to.

the highest My job carries is a 12.5mg pill,

Chosen Answer:

Ambien (zolpidem) can cause amnesia. That’s why it’s recommended that it be taken just prior to going to bed. I personally know of an incident of a patient taking the medication, driving to the grocery store, making purchases, driving home and putting the groceries away and the next day not remembering a thing. In that respect, it can be dangerous for some patients.

  • What Is Ambien (Zolpidem) ?

Ambien is a sedative, also called a hypnotic. It affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause sleep problems (insomnia).

Ambien is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling or staying asleep). This medication causes relaxation to help you fall asleep.
