I have been struggling with insomnia for a while. I just recently started taking benadryl every once in a while for my constant sleeping problem. Now it’s gotten to the point where I feel like if I don’t take it i won’t be able to sleep. I know its not a physical problem. I am just letting my mind play tricks on me. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Chosen Answer:
Cool temperature in the room. As little light as possible. As little sound as possible. Avoid mental or emotional stimulation 2 hours prior to sleep. Last but not least, try Melatonin.

I think i’m an insomniac. I can’t fall asleep until 4 am each night. I always get super anxious at night. Is this something worth going to the doctor over? Do i have insomnia?
Chosen Answer:
You may take a trip to the doctor but pre-diagnosing yourself may be part of the problem. Only a doctor can actually tell you what the problem is. Try getting ready for bed earlier, cut off the tv an hour before you intend to fall asleep. I usually get a book and read until I get sleepy.
Eating before can also cause you to lose sleep.
The less thoughts you have running through your mind the better your body starts to relax. Try that first and if that doesn’t count then you should see a doctor.

i am on 50mg of Pamelor which is an anti-depressant. its a low dosage and is used to prevent chronic migraines rather than depression. i’ve been having trouble sleeping lately and want to take an Ambien tonight. would the combination cause any weird problem for me?
Chosen Answer:
It shouldn’t just take one ambien, and it shouldn’t effect you in any negative way, i am on anti depressants, and was on ambien and it didn’t do anything bad.

I just missed an appointment with my psychiatrist and can’t book another one for a month, and I can’t sleep well without ambien at all. I would even buy it from someone if I had to. Have you ever gotten it without a prescription? how do you do so?
Chosen Answer:
You need a prescription for Ambien. Call your doctor and tell him your problem.

I think I might have insomnia. I’m a 14 year old girl. I’m afraid to tell my mom about it because she already thinks I’m doctor crazy. I just finished therapy a few months ago and I don’t want to go back. What should I do?
Chosen Answer:
If you text and browse the internet before going to sleep that might be your problem, a study recently showed that those activities may cause insomnia in kids and teens. Check it out!

I have tried all medications, I cannot afford expensive medications anymore. I need a cheep solution to
my insomnia problem.

Try a warm bath with chamomile baby wash then use chamomile lotion. You can find both in any CVS, Walgreen, Walmart, Supermarket in the baby section. Reduce anything with caffeine; coffee, soda, chocolate. A chamomile tea also might help.

I want to get off of ambien and sleep aids all together, but when I try to do it myself, I get extremely sick and can’t stop shaking and vomiting. If I make an appointment with my doctor, what can he do for me? I dont feel that my problem is big enough for “rehab”, but I definitely know that I need some sort of intervention.
Chosen Answer:
You can’t quit cold turkey. That is very bad for your body. You need to gradually reduce your intake and your body will become readjusted and no longer need it. Talk to your doctor about your desire to stop taking it, he will advise you how eventually quit. But you can’t just stop taking it all at once. Tell him the effects when you stop taking it. You need to GRADUALLY reduce your intake, most likely over a period of a month or two. I’m not a doctor but I know if you stop taking medication and try to quit cold turkey your body will react badly.
He can advise how to quit SAFELY and alternatives
Melatonin is a natural sleep aide that is non habit forming.

My sister just told me that she takes ambien during the day sometimes to take a nap. The problem is that most of the time she gets distracted by other things and doesnt end up taking a nap. She just does regular stuff around the house. Isnt this dangerous or potentially bad for her system? She doesnt drive or anything, but it still worries me. Any thoughts?
Chosen Answer:
It sounds as if your sister might have an addiction to ambien, and is making excuses for why she’s taking it during the day. Ambien is not meant to be used for naps, anyway.
