My doctor prescribed me ambien because i have been having trouble sleeping for two months. Can you please share your experiences with this medication? Thanks
Chosen Answer:
I know someone close to me who used to take it, and trust me it’s a serious drug!
It kicks in so quickly, and it pretty much knocks you out. I would suggest you try more natural ways before giving in to drugs. I think drugs should always be the last resource, for many reasons such as dependency, long term effects, side effects, etc. If you do decide to take it make sure you are familiar with the side effects. Also make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest at night, because if you don’t you will probably be zombie like in the morning. Make sure no driving after taking ambien!!!

Ambien is a pretty harmless drug right? Or am I missing something? I’ve been having trouble as of late sleeping due to my husband is about to deploy in one month. Is ambien a popularly abused drug?
Chosen Answer:
any sleeping aid can be abused, and can make you dependant as well.
I should think how easy or difficult it would be would depend on your relationship with your doctor, and whether or not you have a history of abusing other medications.

I have had trouble with my heart speeding up when taking cold
medicines in the past. I read that ambien has antihistamines
in them, and I have had a few palpations since starting this
medication.

Try this site to look at side effects. But really, you need to call your doctor. You can speak to the nurse and she can help you. Be safe.

I have always had trouble falling asleep at night. I have to take an over the counter sleep aid every night because if I don’t I simply wont go to sleep. Now the sleep aid does not help. I wake up at 5 every morning after going to sleep at 12 or 1 and I do not go back to sleep until 7 or 8 if I do go back to sleep. Does anyone know if this could be a sign of insomnia?
Chosen Answer:
Talk to your doctor about these:
Rozerem
Ambien CR
Temazepam
Serax
Oxazepam
Lunesta
Temazepam is the best benzodiazepine for insomnia (especially when you can’t stay asleep). It works for most people and, unlike all other benzodiazepines, will not interfere with sleep architecture.
Oxazepam is not as commonly used but it is one of the top drugs for people who wake up later and do not respond to first line drugs.

i am on 50mg of Pamelor which is an anti-depressant. its a low dosage and is used to prevent chronic migraines rather than depression. i’ve been having trouble sleeping lately and want to take an Ambien tonight. would the combination cause any weird problem for me?
Chosen Answer:
It shouldn’t just take one ambien, and it shouldn’t effect you in any negative way, i am on anti depressants, and was on ambien and it didn’t do anything bad.

Sometimes, humans can be trouble falling asleep when we want to sleep. Whenever humans feel that we need to be asleep, sometimes we have trouble falling asleep.
While insomnia is extremely common in humans, there isn’t much news about dogs, cats or other mammals with trouble falling asleep.
Chosen Answer:
Humans abuse themselves so much more. Look at the crap we eat, look at the lack of exercise we get, look at all of the unhealthy levels of stress we undergo. Animals have a very simple mission: Eat, reproduce, run away from predators, and sleep. If life were that easy for us, we’d all be getting our 8 hours just fine.

Chosen Answer:
Although it is not as addictive as say Lortab or Xanax, Ambien does carry some risk of dependence (i.e. you may not be able to get to sleep without it after awhile). It is nowhere near as abused as the aforementioned drugs either. The main side effects you may notice at first are feeling tired the next day, feeling dizzy or a headache. People have also reported sleep walking or even sleep eating or driving while taking this type of drug, but that’s relatively rare. You shouldn’t have any trouble getting a prescription for it if you talk to your MD. Ambien CR is not available in a generic and may cost you quite a bit, but plain Ambien (zolpidem) comes in generic and would save you quite a bit if that’s an issue.
